The number of foreign students in Portugal has almost doubled since 2014.
As reported by Universia Portugal, the data was recordered by the supervisory body that regulates the International Student Status who predict that around 5,540 international students will arrive in Portugal in 2018, making a total of 26,228 students under this regime choosing our country for the development of their formal education.
From 2014, year of the creation of the International Student Status when 14.883 students under this status arrived in Portugal, we have been witnessing this increase in authorization requests to study in Portuguese higher education, in all levels of learning including specialized technical education.
Students from Brazil, Spain, France, Angola, Cape Verde and Germany stand out the most in opting for this preference.
The universities of Coimbra, Lisbon, Porto, Minho and the Polytechnic of Guarda have been the most sought after public institutions, with an increase in demand also being noticed in private institutes.
