23-12-2020. The Instituto Politécnico de Coimbra (IPC) will acquire 86 bicycles for the academic community

The Instituto Politécnico de Coimbra (IPC) will acquire 86 bicycles for use of its academic community – of which 36 electric and 50 conventional - as part of the "IPC cycling" project, which also includes the acquisition of infrastructure for appropriate parking.

The new equipment will be made available to the community as well as the dissemination of the respective conditions of use. In 2021 it will already be possible for students and staff to ride these new IPC bicycles daily, parking in areas prepared for the purpose, in each of the Organic Teaching Units (UOE), Central Services, Gymnasium of the Polytechnic of Coimbra and Student Residences.

Sustainable mobility is, more and more, a concern for those who manage Higher Education Institutions, as they are important poles of attraction and travel generation. This plan intends to promote the smooth mobility, focusing on the bicycle, focusing on the academic community of the Polytechnic of Coimbra. Promoting consumption habits and more sustainable behaviours and attitudes, in function of a better environmental health and, naturally, a better quality of life.

These measures will be financed in 70% through two applications to the Environmental Fund made by the Occupational and Environmental Health Service.
